Traditional Thai Massage
Thai Massage takes its origins from India where the art has been practiced for thousands of years. It was devised by the founder of traditional Thai medicine, an Indian Ayurvedic doctor known as Shivago Komarpaj. When Buddhism became established on a national level in India, monks began to spread the teachings of Buddha throughout Asia. These monks, who were trained in Ayurvedic principles, not only taught the word of Buddha but also the now legendary stories of Shivago Komarpaj, and the Ayurvedic principles. Thailand is thought to have had mainly shamanic-style healing practices prior to arrival of Buddhism.

Thai Foot Massage (Reflexology)
De La Loubere’s Chronicle, written in the of King Narai (2656-1689) mentioned the popular use of massage in ancient Siam. In Siam, when one fell ill, his or her cousins would have him or her massage. Furthermore, it was said that King Chulalongkorn (Rama V, 1868-1910) was so fond of this method of rejuvenation that whenever he went out to visit his subjects in remote areas, at least one massage therapist was included in his entourage. The techniques of Thai reflexology have been influenced by countries within the Buddhist trade routes-India, China and other Asian countries. For example, the reflexology stick use to stimulate the reflex points in Thai Foot Reflexology originated in Taiwan as a tool for providing greater depth or pressure. Thus, the art of massage has been practiced and developed for centuries in Thailand. Thai foot reflexology has evolved through the incorporation of techniques from the therapies of other countries-China, Korea and Japan with the aim of enhancing the therapy and thereby achieving more beneficial results.
